As the third largest school system in the state, Guilford County Schools offer a wealth of options to parents and children.
GCS offers an educational experience for everyone. With 43 magnet programs, 5 IB (International Baccalaureate) programs, 7 early/middle colleges, 3 Montessori schools, and Weaver Academy and the Aviation Academy both teaching hands-on technical skills, the school system works to meet the needs of every student. GCS unveiled a new strategic plan in early 2009, that will guide its progress toward academic excellence and character education until 2012.
GCS has been distinguished by several awards recently. The Early College at Guilford is one of the nationís top 100 high schools, according to a new annual survey by the U.S. News & World Report. The national magazine recognized Weaver Academy with an honorable mention as well. GCS also distinguished itself in the area of sustainability, receiving the Sustainable Energy Leadership Award for helping North Carolina achieve its energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability goals and was the only district in the state to receive the award.
